Blairsville - Union County AT Community

Union County, Georgia and it's county seat, Blairsville, were selected by the Appalachian Trail Conservancy (ATC) as an AT Community in 2010. This recognizes our community's efforts to promote and protect the Appalachian Trail and to provide support to those who hike it.

As an AT Trail Community, we have merchants that offer special offers to hikers.  Our Supporters page lists the participating merchants. We also do various projects that help tie the community to the trail, such as our map of hiking trails in Union County.

We have many other trails in our area, some of which connect to the AT while many are separate. For those seeking a less wild hiking experience, we have Meeks Park, a series of short trails located near our downtown. Many of our trails are located in the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest (CONF), and even within protected wilderness areas. So, we have hiking for all age groups and levels of fitness.

For more information about the Appalachian Trail in Georgia, be sure to read "The History of the Appalachian Trail in North Georgia". Printed copies are available at Mountain Crossings at Neel Gap, the Union County Historical Society Museum in Blairsville, and at the Blairsville-Union County Chamber of Commerce.

Come on out and enjoy our trails.
